topher bids a seek fun companion adieu.
It is with a heavy heart that I report to you the death of my faithful, trusty camping plate. While packing the truck for this weekend's trip to the Apostle Islands, I caught a glimpse of light passing through many small holes in the bottom of my camping plate, and I knew that it was not going to make this trip with Brian and me.
I purchased this plate, already well used, in 1994 from a gentleman who was getting out of camping and selling off all his gear. I bought the whole kit and kaboodle from him just as I myself was getting heavier into adventure. In the past 13 years, this plate has served up countless servings of oatmeal, red beans and rice, freeze-dried green beans, fresh fish, and various amalgams of fruit compote. It has accompanied me to the tops of mountains, the bottoms of ravines, and along many rivers. It's been on adventures in 4 countries on two continents. My plate has weathered bitter cold temperatures and comical plunges into quicksand, and I will miss it dearly. Goodbye plate.
