Back from Guatemala

A medical mission to Guatemala is hard to sum up, truly. But there are numerous highlights I can share. There are scrapes and bruises. There are the numerous quasi-suicidal bus rides. There're the Albendazole and Permethrin treatments needed to get rid of worms and scabies. Of course, there's jungle heat and bugs. And, if you're imprudent enough to stray from the bottled water, there may be something waiting for you that you'll just have to experience for yourself.

But, only three days removed from the trip, I can say unequivocally that I will return if the opportunity presents itself. The experience was all at the same time exhilarating, heart-wrenching, and perspective-shifting. The work we did meant something wonderful to the people we touched and what we got in return easily makes sleeping in Permethrin cream worthwhile. ~ topher

Guatemala Photos...

Though we worked hard the whole week, it was fairly easy to keep the camera shutter moving throughout the trip. I'm just now beginning to sort through the photos I took and I'll likely get hold of more photos from Erin, Kelly, and Ryan this week.

So, please keep peeking in the gallery over the next several days. I'll be posting new pics there continuously. I'll try to add images in an organized fashion—by village and town, perhaps—so that you can more easily check for new stuff as I add on.

I'll also try to add detailed captions as well so the gallery can convey some of the story. But, look for some thoughts.

No more school!

March 21st, 2007 marks topher's last day of two years worth of writing mind-numbingly boring papers on topics such as EBDIT, market capitalization, and everyone's favorite business buzzword—Best Practices.

No more dealing with the University of Phoenix!

On this note, the University of Phoenix recently issued a rebuttal to some criticisms it's received in the press. I feel the rebuttal is relevant to some criticisms I published as well. Thus, I've posted the University's comments alongside my thought.
