Doors Unopened—February, 2008

You will never know what lies beyond doors unopened.

I wish to convince you of this before the hinges rust tight.

Because you wait now—you hesitate. And I know not why.

Your sphere of concern has a greater radius than your sphere of influence.

Your sphere of influence is greater than your sphere of control.

And control is an illusion.

The vast majority of your fears are, therefore and anyway, quite outside your control—QED.

Why, then, let them control you?

The universe beyond is not stacked against you. It does not stand ready to pounce you once you try.

The universe is quite indifferent to you.

Don't sulk; it's quite indifferent to me, too.

The universe has invested but a few atoms in each of us.

The universe does not cheer when we triumph, nor weep when we fail.

It certainly does not write home about us.

What lies beyond a door unopened is what you carry through it.

Turn the knob.

Push.

A world of dreams is waiting.

Write home about them.
