Minivans — March, 2004

Every once in a while, people say things that stick with us for one reason, another, or both. Below are two quotes from the great modern amateur philosopher, Gordon "Smitty" Smith. They're statements he made in conversation, and they stuck with me. Today, I share them with you. Thanks, Smitty.

Thought 1:
"The most dangerous thing in the world is a middle-aged man in a mini-van."

Thought 2:
"Happiness is a dog-eared road atlas."

It's interesting to consider thought 2 in light of something that another friend of mine - Craig "Bur-Dog" Burzynski - once said. Craig put forth that quality of life can be measured by how many nights per year one spends sleeping in a tent. Notice that the two are not mutually exclusive, but rather, mutually supportive. And, Craig and Gordon have never met.

Maybe that John Denver guy wasn't full of shit.
