topher's book list...

topher's reading...

In the right column of this page I've listed two literature "projects". The first is a two-book investigation into the culture of the United States, then and nearly now. I read these two back-to-back a couple years ago and enjoyed comparing them.

I'm now working on the second project I listed, James Joyce's Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man followed by Joseph Heller's Portrait of the Artist as an Old Man. I thought it would be fun to compare these like I did the others.

This will be my first exposure to Joyce (other than attempting to read three pages of Finnegan's Wake, of which I understood not a word). And I'm excited to read more of Heller, as Catch 22 is a classic that remains one of my favorites.
